Eyes are considered to be the most precious organs of the body. No doubt eye health must be maintained, but this doesn’t mean at all to believe things which do not associate to eye health directly or indirectly. People have accepted many myths related to vision without applying any logic and follow these myths. This is high time such myths should be compared to the truth.

  • Person who sits close to television has bad eyesight

This is just a saying and has got no scientific proof. It may not be comfortable for the eyes as it may make them tired. But this does not affect vision as such. It is suggested to choose a position which does not stress your eyes. Latest LCDs are better choice for eyes.

  • Reading in dim light is bad for your eyes

This myth is also related to the first one discussed. It can cause stress to eyes and thus can result in fatigue. Vision has nothing to do with it. To keep eye vision healthy, one should exercise and eat nutritious diet.

  • Eye exercises improve your eyesight

Exercising undoubtedly relaxes the eye muscles, but it can’t improve eye vision. So, a person can exercise regularly to prevent the tiredness to eyes.

  • Lasik eye operation cures eyesight problems

Lasik procedures and are painless but have some side effects also. These are temporary procedures. But doing these and risking such sensitive option for temporary effects are not a wiser option. Instead use spectacles and contact lenses to improve your vision.

  • Older persons have “second sight”

This second sight is due to the affected lens which is the reason of cataract development.

  • Frequent sex and masturbation can cause blindness

If this would have been the case, the world would be full of blind people. Stop worrying about it as this has nothing to do with the eyesight. Some STD’s if not treated may cause blindness but does not at all means not to have sex. People can and should have safe sex.

  • Contact lenses are better than glasses

Wearing spectacles is the safer way to deal with vision issues. Wearing and maintaining lenses are a tedious task to do. Glasses are cheaper and easy way one can opt for.

  • No need to check eyesight before 40

Even if the person has not the problem of poor eye vision, it is recommended to get eyes checked regularly.

Myths even say that vision loss can’t be prevented. But it surely can be. Don’t believe myths and take proper care of your eyes.
