Biological factors also develop eating disorders. 50 to 80 percent eating disorders are determined by genetic factors.
Social factors like the desire of a perfect body and image gives birth to eating disorders. The unrealistic pressure on mind at a very early age develops poor eating conditions in many people, especially women.
Psychological factors that are related to stress, anxiety, and depression exacerbate the eating disorders.
Interpersonal factors like being teased for weight or history of mental, physical, emotional or sexual abuse leads to eating disorders.
Types of Eating Disorders
Aneroxia- This one is the most popular eating disorder that occurs as an after-effect to great emotional insecurity. Young girls are usually a victim of this. The hunger to attain a perfect figure results in calorie counting, extreme exercising, and starvation. As a result, many teenagers spoil their digestive system for life.
Bulimia Nervosa- This eating disorder makes you binge on food first and then puke it out. It’s like giving a punishment to your body. First you eat food then you vomit it out because of the fear of putting on weight. Most of the fashion models are a sufferer of this disorder. The late princess Diana was a victim of bulimia nervosa.
Compulsive eating disorder- You cannot stop eating if you have this eating abnormality. One becomes a food addict in this and cannot stop eating what he/she likes.
Night eating syndrome- People who are a sufferer of this condition puts of eating till the evening telling them that they are on a diet. When they get really hungry during late evening or night, they gorge on food. Gradually this repeated becomes a routine and as a result you put on weight.
Pica- Pica sufferers licks, chews or eat things that do not fall in food category. Eating chalk, glue, wax, granite etc are some best examples of this.
